Locus Tag
PA1999
Name
dhcA
Synonym: pcaI
Synonym: atoD
Synonym: scoA
Replicon chromosome
Genomic location 2185527 - 2186225 (+ strand)
Transposon Mutants in orthologs 2 transposon mutants in orthologs
CommentDeletion of dhcA or transposon insertions into the coding sequence result in a strain unable to grow using L-carnitine as a sole carbon source. DhcA is predicted to form a complex with DhcB which functions to deacetylate 3-dehydrocarnitine generating acetyl-CoA and glycine betaine CoA. Deletion of the dhcAB operon results in complete loss of carnitine-dependent CoA utilization from cytoplasmic extracts compared to cytoplasm from wild-type cells.; Transcription of the dhcAB operon is regulated by the transcription factor DhcR.
